Jankoski-Amsini campaign barred from Late Night, Dining Hall, University Center

As a result of repeated election rules violations, the Student Government Association Election Board barred the Jankoski-Amsini campaign from actively campaigning in several areas on campus.

On April 22, the Board prohibited the presidential/executive vice-presidential campaign of Anthony Jankoski and Daniel Amsini from campaign activities at Late Night. Earlier today, the Board placed a total ban on the Jankoski-Amsini team from all campaign activities at the University Center and True Grits Dining Hall.

The Election Board determined that the Jankoski-Amsini campaign had violated SGA Election Rules 10 and 15. Those rules prohibit candidates from violating campus policies and soliciting votes using electronic devices. The Board sanctioned the Jankoski-Amsini campaign from actively campaigning at Late Night from 9:30 p.m. until 2:30 a.m on April 22.

The Board made its initial ruling on April 22 after receiving complaints that Jankoski “played loud music on Academic Row in violation of campus policy on April 16” and used electronic devices to solicit votes on the night of April 20.

Earlier today, the Board received complaints that the Jankoski-Amsini campaign had again violated Rule 10 by soliciting votes with electronic devices during the morning voting period on Wednesday.

In both cases, members of the Board voted 6-0, with one member absent, both in determining the nature of the violation and in determining the proper sanction. Under the SGA Constitution, the Board’s rulings are final and cannot be appealed.

The sanction prohibits all members of the Jankoski-Amsini campaign from wearing campaign T-shirts, distributing campaign flyers and other campaign literature, campaigning by word of mouth, and soliciting votes inside and within 50 feet of True Grits Dining Hall as well as inside and within 10 feet of the UC. According to the Board’s statement, “This ban will be in force beginning at 9:30 a.m. and through both the morning and evening voting periods (9:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m-12:00 a.m.).”

The Board went on to place the Jankoski-Amsini campaign under official notice. A repeat violation of Rule 10 will be met with a “dire” sanction. The Election Board chair declined to comment.
