Leadership, homecoming week, library frees up space

Student Life’s leadership challenge

Virginia Byrne, the coordinator for leadership development and education in the Office of Student Life, is challenging students to become better leaders this week. The 7-Day Leadership Challenge, which began on Sunday, is a free online program that all students can access through myUMBC. A new question is posted every day, and the students who post and comment on the questions the most throughout the week will be invited to the “Challenge Completers” lunch. Warm up that keyboard, you future leader, you.

A thrilling homecoming

UMBC wrapped up a week-long Homecoming celebration this past Saturday. The loaded week included events like the Homecoming Hype, a bonfire on Erickson Field, a talent show and live stand-up in the RAC by comedian Hannibal Buress. There was also a homecoming festival on Saturday that included, for the first time that any of us can remember, a cash bar. Now that the festivities are over, don’t fall into the giant pit of ash and sand on Erickson that the bonfire left behind.

Changes in the AOK

There is new space that has recently been freed up on the first floor of the Albin O. Kuhn Library near the printing stations. A poll has been posted to myUMBC so that students can vote on what they’d like to see in that space. Some of the options include group study tables, additional computers, white boards and a lounge area. As of October 12, there have been almost 300 votes on the poll. What are you waiting for? Get in there.
