Maryland Election Results: Alsobrooks is to be Maryland’s First Black Women Senator

Angela Alsobrooks (Democrat) has been elected as Maryland’s new Senator, replacing Ben Cardin (Democrat). Alsobrooks won 52.2% of the votes, while Larry Hogan (Republican) only won 45.3%. Alsobrooks is Maryland’s first Black woman to represent in the U.S. Senate. She is one of two Black women who will be serving in the U.S. Senate. 

The state of Maryland also voted for Question 1 to create a State Constitutional Right to Reproductive Freedom, including abortion. 

Brandon Scott has been re-elected as the Mayor of Baltimore City, which is the first time in 20 years that the city has re-elected a mayor. Additionally, Baltimore voters rejected Ballot Question H, which would have decreased the size of the City Council. Baltimore County voters approved expanding the County Council to 9 members. Johnny Olszewski (Democrat) has been elected to the House of Representatives, representing Maryland District 3. Baltimore County voted to strengthen the Office of Inspector General

Meanwhile, Howard County voters supported Question A, to establish an independent Office of Inspector General. Sarah Elfreth (Democrat) has been elected to the House of Representatives, representing Maryland District 3.
