Fall for a new show

It’s the start of the Fall semester and that means there’s a new Fall television lineup. Each television station has their time slots filled with new programs, hoping to make the cut and gain a loyal following.

Of course, the viewer can expect the return of old favorites. Shows like “The Walking Dead,” “Scandal” and “How to Get Away With Murder” will surely return with shocking drama and new plot twists. However, there are several new shows rumored to take viewers by surprise this Fall.

AMCs spinoff series “Fear the Walking Dead” caused a stir by setting the all-time cable ratings premiere record. This popular drama is the pre-apocalypse companion to “The Walking Dead,” and will explore the collapse of humanity as the virus that causes this outcome slowly takes over. Superb acting on the part of Frank Dillane, who portrays heroin addict Nick Clark, foreshadows a masterful depiction of the human struggle as the world ends.

Another drama to look out for is ABC’s new mystery “Quantico.” Set to premiere on September 27 at 10 p.m., this drama proposes a new perspective on the classic “whodunnit” plot line.

“Quantico” follows a crop of new FBI recruits training at the Quantico base in Virginia. However, one of the recruits who is not revealed to the audience is actually responsible for the largest domestic terrorist attack on U.S. soil since September 11. Protagonist Alex Parrish, played by Priyanka Chopra, is falsely accused of having orchestrated the attack and is out to clear her name and bring in the true criminal.

This season, NBC has put forth two new shows that have been the recipients of much attention prior to their premiere dates.

First is “Blindspot,” a mystery thriller set to premiere on September 21 at 10 p.m., which follows a mysterious woman who wakes up in Times Square with no memory of her identity. Her body, however, is covered in cryptic tattoos that the FBI soon realizes point to a much larger conspiracy. While the plot is reminiscent of “Memento,” a hit movie released in 2000, the show claims to have enough original content to keep the viewer guessing through the whole season.

The second NBC hopeful is actually a reboot. “Heroes: Reborn” follows a new group of gifted citizens who begin the series hiding and on the run. After catching blame for a terrorist attack that decimated Odessa,Texas, the heroes fight for justice against the villains who seek to harness their talents.

Expect to see several characters from the original series including Hiro Nakamura, Noah Bennet and Matt Parkman. NBC had an explosive hit with this concept the first time around, but it is questionable whether they will be able to have the same response twice.

This fall offers fresh faces and creative concepts sure to please. These four shows are expected to dazzle, but perhaps a program that is under the radar will be the most entertaining.
