What is your name, major, and year?

My name is Jake Leizear. I am a junior who is majoring in environmental sciences.

Where are you from (city, county, state)?

I am originally from Crofton in Anne Arundel County, MD.

Who do you admire and why?

I really admire Maurice Sendak, the author of Where The Wild Things Are. He always treated kids like equal beings and had a unique view of the world.

What is your career goal?

After my time at UMBC, I want to work for the Department of Natural Resources in forest population management. So more or less, I want to count trees for a living. It is something I have been interested in since high school, and it is going to be incredibly important in coming years as resource management becomes more a pressing concern on modern America.

If you could change one thing around the world, what would it be?

If I could, I would like the world to have more access to education. I think education is the first step in solving problems, so having a more educated world would mean having a world on its way to lesser problems.

What do you like most about UMBC?

My favorite thing about UMBC is how serious the school takes its students and their ideas. Any student can get involved and make change on campus if he or she really wants to, and the faculty and staff are almost always supportive of the efforts of the student.

What activities do you participate in on campus?

I wear various hats here on campus, figuratively. I am a member of the Dog-Collar Comedy Troupe, Freedom Alliance, QUMBC, and Res Life.

Who is the celebrity you would like to meet; what would you do with him/her?

If I could meet Chris Evans, I would probably take him out to dinner and a movie. It would not necessarily be a movie that he has been in though because that would just be uncomfortable.

What is/are your favorite thing(s) to do outside of UMBC?

My favorite thing to do outside of UMBC is to go to the city with friends. There is so much to do in Baltimore, and I feel like not enough students take advantage of it. Hopefully the new bus routes will help more students get to know our city!

Where do you want to spend your next vacation?

I would love to get back down to Florida for my next vacation. I went there last winter for a funeral, and did not really get to see much. Florida is such a socially and ecologically interesting place, plus I am a big fan of the weather!

What is your favorite genre of television (comedy, competition,

reality, etc.) and why?

I really love cartoons! It is such a versatile genre, and it just keeps growing.

What kind of music do you like?

I am a die-hard fan of indie rock and alternative.

If you met Dr. Hrabowski (UMBC President), what would you say to him?

If we crossed paths, I would ask him if he would like to come to an improv show!
