The women’s soccer team made the most of their home field advantage this past weekend, defeating Delaware State 4-0 at the Retriever Soccer Park. Senior midfielder Jessy Brown posted her first career multi-score game and finished with five points total on the night. In tandem with earning UMBC’s Athlete of the Week, Brown also was also honored with the America East Player of the Week.

With two goals and an assist, Brown was involved throughout the game. The match was scoreless until the 30’ when Brown scored her first goal. Just six minutes later she had done it again. Both goals were headers coming from crossed balls. Keeping with this theme, Brown’s lone assists came from heading the ball back into the box where her teammate was able to score and give the Retriever’s a 3-0 lead.

Out of UMBC’s seven total shots on goal, Brown took three of them, and connected on two. Her five-point effort is the first for a Retriever since October of 2009. Brown is the third lady Retriever to post a multi-goal game this season.

As a senior, Brown has had an illustrious career. She has started in 60 of the 65 games that she has played, and has recorded 27 total points up to this point. Now sitting at an impressive 6-2 record, Brown and the rest of the team hope to continue their success as the season progresses.
