Poetry Prodigy
Piotr Gwiazda, an associate English professor at UMBC, was selected for the prestigious “Best Books of Poetry in English 2015.” The list included Gwiazda’s book “Aspects of Strangers,” his third poetry publication. According to UMBCNews, “Gwiazda’s areas of interest include modern and contemporary poetry and poetics, poetic theory, creative writing, literary translation and translation theory, intertextuality studies, U.S. literature and culture, and world literature.”
Involvement Fest
After the cancellation of last Wednesday’s Involvement Fest due to the snow, the final two days of the student organization fair will continue as originally scheduled. Day two of Involvement Fest will feature both club and varsity athletics on Friday, Jan. 29. The third and final day will be Monday, Feb. 1, and will be completely dedicated to Greek life. All of the events will take place from 12 to 3 p.m.
Research Recognized
University Business Magazine featured UMBC as one of the nation’s leading research universities. In an interview with the publication, President Freeman Hrabowski described “UMBC’s distinctive emphasis on ‘inclusive excellence,’ where diversity and high academic standards go hand-in-hand. The university’s core concerns, says President Hrabowski, are ‘what we’ve taught [students] and the quality of the education: Are they good thinkers, do they have values that we want to see in educated American citizens?'”
