UMBC Presents Earth Month 2024

UMBC in partnership with Goddard Earth Sciences Technology and Research (GESTAR) II, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and United States Geological Survey (USGS) are delighted to invite the UMBC campus to participate in Earth Month 2024, a month-long student-led event celebrating the planet and working towards sustainability.

Earth Month is being celebrated to commemorate the annual Earth Day, held on April 22nd every year. The name has been changed to Earth Month instead of simply Earth Day because this year, UMBC students are launching the first all-campus effort with 15 separate activities designed to engage students from all three colleges and all majors in activities geared toward helping the planet. This year’s theme is Earth Day Everyday and the school has partnered with EPA, USGS, and GESTAR-II as a part of a Memorandum of Understanding to foster collaborative activities geared toward enhancing awareness of our evolving world.

Earth Day is not supposed to be just a moment but instead a sustained movement, and the only way for it to be possible is to come together to learn, explore, and take action for a more sustainable future.

The event encompasses a wide variety of events including workshops on sustainability, tours of Federal Agencies, Film screenings on environmental activism, art installation and many more.

Some of the major ticketed events include UMBC Theatre’s production of Slime starting from April 4th. More information on tickets and event sign up can be found on UMBC’s Earth Day Website at https://sustainability.umbc.edu/home/earth-month/.

We would like to thank the Office of the Provost, College of Natural and Mathematical Sciences and GESTAR-II for their support. Let’s show the world what UMBC students can do when we come together for a greener, healthier planet. See you at Earth Day 2024!
